omg you guys the party turned out to be a blast. i think this was our best tamale party by far. i had the worst headache all day but once i got home it was forgotten. weird how that happens right? hubby got some of the stuff ready before i got home plus roxy got a quick bath so he wouldn't offend any of our guests since he was certainly going to be the center of attention and oh boy was he ever!
i made bobby flays pomegranate sangria (3 bottles of red total), we had 3 different types of beer, tequila and wine of course.
Pomegranate Sangria
Recipe courtesy Bobby Flay, 2007
Ingredients
1 bottle fruity red wine
2 cups pomegranate juice
1/2 cup brandy
1/2 cup Triple Sec
1/4 cup simple syrup (equal amounts sugar and water, heated until sugar dissolves, cooled)
1/4 cup pomegranate seeds
1 large orange, halved and thinly sliced
1 green apple, cored, halved and thinly sliced
1 cup red grapes, sliced in 1/2
Instructions
Combine all ingredients in a pitcher, cover and refrigerate for at least
4 hours or up to 48 hours before serving. Serve over ice.
i didn't add the pomegranate seeds because they were so pricey so i bought blackberries instead and omitted the grapes. it was a success!!!
our guest didn't arrive until a little after 7pm so i had time to catch up and have dinner with mom and hubby. she left with my bros to mexico on saturday morning so i was happy to have a little more time with her. her chorizo beans were the bomb and the tamales kicked butt! big thanks to paulie for bringing his own bottle of booze, i think everyone had a shot of that sweet tasting honey liqueur. can't forget to thank those peeps that brought us gifts too...much appreciated! : )
my brother raymond brought rock band and guitar hero and we had a blast. i think almost everyone had a shot at it, and yes even me. i would never ever be one to do kareoke and didn't think i would try to sing this time but once you get some alcohol involved, i'm there! and let me tell you, i rocked the house!
by the end of the night i had lost my voice from so much laughing and singing. hubby said he is going to sign me up for "america's got talent"...bahaha!!! i loved rock band so much that as soon as my bros get back we're having another party...can't wait! : )
i cannot believe how much i danced that night and omg i think i over did it on the drinking but i kept myself hydrated which i was getting crap for from all corners but i was going to be the one with the hang over- not them, well they were too...lol.
it's that time again for our annual tamale holiday party. we decided to plan extra early for it this year so i'm happy to say i'm ready! we are having about 20+ peeps, of course there are always those flakes that don't end up showing. nevertheless we have a good time.
we are serving red chile and green chile with cheese tamales (bought not homemade), rice and beans with chorizo. for a merry cocktail i am going to make sangria for those peeps that don't care to drink beer...ME! can't forget the dessert and snacks too.
my bro and his buddies are into playing guitar hero and rock band (not sure if that's the name?) so that will be fun to see them play. i think they have been getting together at his place on friday's for drinks...fun right?!
here are some of the pics from last year...
wish me luck!
we spent most of saturday morning looking for our xmas tree. i was surprised that it didn't take that long to find. our first stop was a waste of time. they were selling a 7-8' noble when it was 6'-7' feet! what a rip off right? but our second stop was good. we picked out our tree in less than 10 minutes. we could not help it, it was perfect!
hubby did a great job setting it up and drilling holes at the bottom while i got the living room ready...
this time we took our time instead of going during the week at night. we took breaks to have lunch and watch the sc/ucla game. i think it came out pretty good. i would have liked to add more ornaments but that thought only lasted about 5 seconds. lol.
Show us how you're spending the day after Thanksgiving.
we did some decorating around the house, nothing major just a little here and there. roxy had a hair cut and the groomer gave him an early xmas gift. we ran an errand to lowe's but got an in and out burger before that. in the evening we made it to disney, finally!
i had a haircut on friday night and the gossip was suhweet!!! dinner with hubby at cuban bistro was fun and their sangria was even better. paulie and i were supposed to hang out but he couldn't make it...my gosh he is so unpredictable. i think i tolerate his shit because i love him dearly. sigh.
saturday morning hubby and i spent most of the morning and late afternoon setting up xmas decorations. he does the light decorating in 2 stages. he ran all the extension cords and hung some of the lights plus the spheres on our front yard tree. next weekend he will hang the icicle lights plus the right light bulbs that go above them, the old school lights..lol.
we found ourselves short so we headed to the stores. my brother raymond gave me a target gift card and it came in handy. we bought some lights, garland and roxy got his santa jacket. he looks so adorable! we tried a new japanese place by our house and we loved it. i think we will be going back soon. later that night we decided to watch psycho. i swear, every time i watch that movie it FREAKS me out! i wish movies were still made like that.
today has been a very relaxing day. i've taken a nap, watched the tube and added some recipes to my recipe journal. i've got dinner in the oven, lemon chicken with potatoes, onions, garlic and olive oil...can't wait to mop that up with some bread.
ttfn
last night hubby and i bought the last of our xmas lights. we decided to replace our icicle lights with sparkling icicle lights instead. our theme is red and white, simple and not tacky (see last year's pic). i also want to replace my garland that i hang on my living room mirror. it's pretty old and looking a bit raggedy to say the least.
i talked to my girlfriend last night and she's invited us for thanksgiving dinner. we haven't seen each other for a while now so i can't wait to spend some quality time with her and her family. we might stop by my aunt's house later, not sure. i am not in the thanksgiving spirit this year. well, i am but i don't want to make the whole meal...bleh!
so the mall last light was all decorated for xmas...yes, already. even starbucks had their decorations up, their xmas blend coffee which i love and their peppermint mocha that i always look forward to. the holidays season just does not start off right until i have it!
tis' the season!
